Usability Assessment
AT&T
AT&T was preparing to launch three mobile devices for an age group too easily missed by the hottest technologies – users aged 60 and older. With some essential mobile apps destined for this new device, we were called on to perform a third-party usability assessment.
Knowing what to look for in an assessment.
First, we needed to develop a critical understanding of the issues seniors face when they use mobile devices. We carefully researched their most common cognitive, sensory, and motor limitations. Then we created our assessment. It was built around five key tasks and evaluated against a well-defined set of UX criteria.
Identifying ways to improve accessibility.
After performing our heuristic assessment, we were able to identify specific challenges such as lack of agility in the hands and fingers, sensitivity to different types of distractions, and a limited frequency range in hearing. At the end of our assessment, we catalogued the accessibility issues that seniors may experience and delivered actionable recommendations on how best to resolve them.
