Firethorn

When the iPhone was launched in 2007, we helped Firethorn develop the world’s first mobile banking app for this new platform. How did we get there first? The secret was our ability to quickly scale designs across platforms.

The background story.

Before the iPhone was around, Mobients designed Firethorn’s first AT&T mobile banking app for hundreds of feature phones. Mobients brought to Firethorn a user-centered design approach that allowed the application to be designed from the user’s point of view. We created wireframes, design specs, a copy deck, a style guide … all the key elements for a better user experience.  The Mobile Banking Application was adopted as the mobile banking platform for AT&T, SunTrust, Wachovia, Citi, and roughly 40 other banks – and it’s still the primary platform for these institutions nearly three years later. Then came the iPhone.

Delivering the iPhone’s first mobile banking experience.

With the key components already in place, we were able to port the freshly redesigned mobile banking app to the iPhone very rapidly, beating everyone else to the draw. Using human interface guidelines (HIG), we developed a comprehensive UX style guide and detailed wireframes defining the experience on the then-new touch, and iPhone. We handed everything off to development. They built out the app. And iPhone got its first mobile banking app ever.
